Updating your email preferences so you stop getting so many emails from me

Get only the emails you want and better control your inbox

Sometimes, I get emails about managing email preferences that seem to generally boil down to the fact that some people are receiving emails from The Author Stack, Writer MBA, and/or Wannabe Press at the same time. Since these are three different platforms/companies with different delivery times, sometimes subscribers are getting daily (or more) emails.

Yipes! I try to stagger all my emails, but it’s not always possible. Even if I do it perfectly, that’s still a lot of emails.

Since my Substack sends multiple emails a week, this is mostly a “Russell sends too many emails through Author Stack” issue, but I wanted to show you how to update your preferences on each email delivery platform that I use so you only get the emails you want.

I don’t ever want to be a burden to your inbox. I have tried to always send value in every email, and adding these Substack emails was a way to provide even more value to you. That some of you aren’t having that experience leaves me gutted.

SUBSTACK

At the bottom of this email, there should be an “unsubscribe link” that should take you to this page. https://authorstack.substack.com/action/disable_email.

It’s right there above Start Writing and below my Address.

Clicking that will take you to a page that looks like this:

Each of these sections comes with its own slider, and I only send ONE email per section a week at most.

If you ONLY want to get a weekly digest, then turn everything off EXCEPT the Weekly Digest.

In that email, I send everything I’ve written during the week and some other cool things I’ve found on the internet, too.

Meanwhile, if you ONLY want to read our ongoing fiction serial, then you should turn everything off EXCEPT The Godsverse Chronicles [ONGOING].

You can see all the options here if you are confused about what any of them mean, or you can email me to ask.

Please note that I can’t unsubscribe you from certain sections, but I can delete your email from the publication in full if you would like me to do that.

Please note that if you want to unsubscribe completely, then you have to click the red UNSUBSCRIBE BUTTON.

If you still find yourself getting emails from me, it is likely because you are a PAID subscriber, and you might have to downgrade your subscription at the top of the page before you unsubscribe. Otherwise, you will be downgraded from PAID to FREE.

It’s not the most intuitive system, honestly. You can also reach out and I’ll delete you myself.

WANNABE PRESS

You also have the option to customize delivery for my Wannabe Press emails. At the bottom of every Wannabe Press email is a link to Manage Preferences which will bring you to this page.

It’s usually right below my signature and above our mission statement.

It will take you to this page.

I can’t share a link with you b/c it’s customized to each person, but you can search your email for We write for the rebels and that should get you the last email if you haven’t already made a selection.

When I am not launching a series, I send weekly emails. However, during a launch, you might hear from me as often as once a day.

This is why I give you the option to decide how often you want to hear from me.

If you are okay with hearing from me more often, then you don't have to do anything.

However, I do give you the option. All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of any Wannabe Press email and click manage preferences

Even if you don't want to do it now, you can at any time choose to change your preferences.

As you can see in the graphic above, you can choose to hear from me weekly, monthly, or only during launches.

If you choose weekly, for instance, you will only hear from me in my weekly Tuesday email (along with a resend to unopens some weeks).

If you choose monthly, then you will only hear from me one time a calendar month (along with a resend to unopens some months).

You might hear from me at the end of one month and then at the beginning of the next month, but it will only be once a month, in what I think is the most important email of the month.

If you choose only at launches, then I will only contact you during our book launches on Kickstarter or otherwise, which will be roughly 5-10 times a year. I plan to email you at launch and then a couple of days before the end of the campaign.

If you do not choose any of the above, you will be sorted into my standard group, which usually receives weekly emails but during launches I do send more often.

CONVERTKIT

We don’t know how to make a nice manage preferences page with Convertkit, but moving forward our plan is to have this language at the bottom of each email in a sequence that opts you out from hearing about that specific product.

P.S. - If you'd like to stay on our main list, but would like to stop hearing about [insert product here], click here.

Then, you should be pulled out of those emails. If you cannot find it, or it doesn’t work, please reach out and I can make any changes manually.

I’m sorry you might not be having a good experience. I hope this can rectify it for you. My goal is always to make you say “heck yes!” when an email from me lands in your inbox. Anything less is unacceptable.
